The bridge standing today dates largely to 1345, and its goldsmiths’ shops have occupied it since the late sixteenth century.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFrom the riverbank, that history feels almost ordinary. Buildings press against the water, reflections loosen their edges, birds pass overhead, and the bridge remains part of the city rather than something separated from it for admiration.
