Iroke - Hand Rolled Botanical Smudge Incense
Jasmine · Rose · Soft Resin
Intention: Sensuality - Presence & Embodiment
Iroke is a floral botanical smudge incense stick made with jasmine, rose, hibiscus, sandalwood, orris root, benzoin and frankincense.
Created around sensual presence, Iroke belongs to private moments of returning to the body without performance, observation or expectation. It carries the feeling of warm air against skin, breath slowing in a quiet room, flowers opening after dark, and becoming aware again of the simple fact of being physically present.
Its character is floral, warm and intimate, with jasmine and rose resting against soft woods, root and resin.
Iroke is an incense for inhabiting yourself.
6 hand-rolled, botanical smudge incense sticks on sun-dried cocoyea stems.

The Name
Iroke comes from the Japanese iroke (色気), a word associated with sensual charm, allure, sexual presence and an intangible quality of attraction or atmosphere.
What interested us was not the idea of being desirable to someone else, but the deeper sense of presence the word can hold.
For Iroke, sensuality begins before another person enters the room.
It is the awareness of your own skin, temperature, breath and movement. The body experienced from within rather than imagined through someone else’s gaze.
That distinction became central to the incense.
There is a kind of sensuality that exists quietly and without performance: bare skin against cool sheets, warm air moving across the body, flowers opening in darkness, fragrance lingering close to the skin, the weight of your own limbs at rest.
Nothing needs to be displayed.
Nothing needs to be witnessed.
For us, Iroke is sensual presence. The feeling of inhabiting your body and remembering that your body is your own.
Intention
Sensuality: Presence & Embodiment
Iroke is intended for moments of returning to physical awareness.
It can accompany bathing, dressing slowly, stretching, resting, writing, intimacy with yourself, or simply spending time in a room without needing to be productive or observed.
Embodiment, for us, is not about appearance. It is about noticing what it feels like to occupy the body from the inside.
Warmth. Breath. Texture. Weight. Movement.
Iroke creates space for that awareness to become more immediate.
Scent & Composition
Iroke opens with jasmine and rose, giving the composition a rich floral presence without becoming overly sweet. Hibiscus brings quieter floral detail, while sandalwood and orris root soften the edges with dry wood and a subtle powdery character. Benzoin and frankincense settle beneath the flowers with a warm resinous depth.
The result is intimate and floral, with enough wood and resin to keep the composition grounded.
Incense Composition
Sandalwood · Jasmine · Rose · Hibiscus · Orris Root · Benzoin · Frankincense
Botanical Crust
Rose · Jasmine · Hibiscus
Each Iroke stick is finished with a botanical crust of rose, jasmine, elderflower and hibiscus.
The flowers create a visibly soft, layered surface that keeps the floral character of Iroke present in the finished stick rather than hidden entirely within the incense blend.
Because the crust is made from real botanical material, colour, texture and distribution naturally vary from stick to stick.
Natural Stem
Sun-Dried Cocoyea Stem
Cocoyea is the slender midrib of the coconut palm leaf, a familiar Caribbean material traditionally used in everyday making.
Light, strong and naturally fibrous, it forms the centre of each incense stick and gives the finished piece a material character rooted in the landscape around us.
It is one of the quiet details that makes Nadi Sangama incense distinctly its own.
Made in Studio Nadi Sangama
Iroke is made by hand in small batches in Studio Nadi Sangama in Trinidad & Tobago.
The flowers, woods, roots and natural resins are prepared and blended with untreated mixed wood material and naturally derived binders to form the incense itself.
The cocoyea stems are prepared separately. The midribs are removed from coconut palm leaves, cleaned, sun-dried and cut to length before each incense stick is formed around them by hand. Once rolled, the sticks are finished with their botanical crust and left to dry slowly before being prepared for use.
This process allows the construction of the incense to remain visible and material-led from beginning to end. The aromatic blend, botanical surface and natural stem are all integral parts of the finished stick rather than decorative elements added afterward.
There is no synthetic fragrance added to manufacture a floral or resinous scent. Iroke takes its aromatic character directly from the flowers, woods, roots and natural resins within the composition.
The finished Iroke formulation has been tested non-toxic and contains no synthetic fragrance, no charcoal and no synthetic additives.

Character & Variation
Iroke is made from botanical materials that naturally vary from one harvest and batch to another.
Differences in the colour, texture and distribution of the floral crust are expected, as are small variations between individual hand-rolled sticks. Rose, jasmine, elderflower and hibiscus will not appear in precisely the same proportions across every surface.
The aromatic character also develops through the burn rather than remaining completely uniform. Floral, woody, powdery and resinous notes may move forward or recede as the ember passes through different parts of the composition.
These variations belong to the materials themselves and are part of working without synthetic fragrance systems designed for exact replication.
Burning
Place the stick securely in a heat-resistant incense vessel.
Light the botanical end and allow the flame to establish briefly before gently blowing it out. A glowing ember should remain, releasing a steady stream of aromatic smoke.
Allow the incense to burn naturally or extinguish it once the desired atmosphere has been reached.
Because the surface contains real leaves and resin, the character of the smoke may shift subtly as the ember moves through the stick.
Always burn in a well-ventilated space, away from drafts and combustible materials. Never leave burning incense unattended. Keep away from children and pets, and allow all ash and embers to cool fully before disposal.
Storage
Keep incense wrapped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive humidity.
After opening, rewrap the remaining sticks carefully to preserve their aromatic character and protect the botanicals from moisture.
