The cattle were moving slowly through the grass when I took this, dark against the warmth of the evening and almost perfectly framed by the coconut palms behind them. There was no urgency in the scene. The light had begun to flatten into that deep southern gold, and everything seemed to settle into its own rhythm.
What I liked was how unmistakably Trinidadian it felt without needing to announce itself. Pasture giving way to coconut, animals wandering close to the road, heat still hanging in the air, and that long, loose relationship between cultivation and wild growth that becomes more visible the farther south you travel.
The photograph holds that quiet rural familiarity for me. Not a spectacle, just a piece of the landscape being lived in as it always has been.
