Taken at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

What stayed with me that night was the way the mosque seemed to belong to the sky as much as it did to the ground. The domes rose out of deep blue light, the courtyards reflected what little illumination touched them, and people moved quietly through the architecture beneath an expanse that felt almost without end.

The blue was not incidental. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is illuminated according to the lunar cycle, allowing the exterior to shift in brightness and tone as the month moves through its phases. Standing there, that relationship between architecture, faith, and the movement of the heavens felt less like symbolism and more like something physically present.

I wanted the image to hold that sense of scale without losing the human presence inside it. Two figures move toward the mosque beneath a sky that seems impossibly large, and the building becomes part of a much older rhythm of darkness, light, time, and devotion.
