Kairi - Body Butter

Cocoa · Coconut · Moringa · Beeswax

Kairi is a concentrated body butter made with unrefined cocoa butter, virgin coconut oil, unrefined moringa seed oil and beeswax, created to soften dry skin, improve suppleness and help preserve moisture after application.

Its character comes from a small group of materials chosen with purpose and closely connected to the botanical culture of Trinidad & Tobago. Cocoa butter gives Kairi its rich, substantial body and leaves the skin deeply conditioned. Virgin coconut oil softens readily with warmth, helping the butter melt and spread while replenishing the skin with emollient lipids. Moringa seed oil brings a supple, fluid quality to the composition and helps soften dry, rough areas. Beeswax leaves a fine protective layer over the skin, helping slow moisture loss while giving the finished butter structure and resilience.

Kairi is dense and scoopable in the jar. Between warm hands, it begins to soften and open, moving gradually across the body and leaving the skin rich, conditioned and lightly protected.

Because it contains no added water, a small amount carries a substantial concentration of oils, fats and waxes. Applied after bathing while a little moisture remains on the skin, Kairi helps preserve that moisture while replenishing the surface with emollient lipids.

There is no added fragrance. Its natural aroma belongs to the materials themselves.

The Name

Kairi is among the Indigenous names recorded for Trinidad from before European arrival. The name is connected to the Arawakan word cayri, meaning island.

We chose it because Kairi is, in many ways, our island body butter.

Its composition pays homage to the botanical culture of Trinidad & Tobago through materials that have become deeply woven into life here. Cacao has a long agricultural history on the islands. Coconut belongs to generations of Caribbean food, domestic practice and body care. Moringa grows readily in the region and has become part of the contemporary botanical landscape. The beeswax is sourced here as well, giving the composition another direct relationship to place.

These plants do not all originate in Trinidad & Tobago, and Kairi does not suggest that they do. What matters is the life they have taken on here: cultivated, used, shared and absorbed into the botanical landscape and everyday material culture of the islands.

That relationship is expressed through unrefined cocoa butter, virgin coconut oil, unrefined moringa seed oil and beeswax sourced and processed in Trinidad & Tobago.

That connection gave the product its name.

Kairi: island.

A body butter made in Trinidad & Tobago and shaped by the botanical culture of the place in which it is made.

Ingredient Composition

Kairi is composed from a deliberately concise group of botanical fats, oils and waxes. Each ingredient has been chosen for what it contributes to the skin as well as for the role it performs within the finished butter.

Unrefined Cocoa Butter

Our cocoa butter is produced from cacao grown and processed in Trinidad & Tobago and is used in its unrefined form.

Cocoa butter is pressed from the seeds of Theobroma cacao, a tree with deep agricultural significance in the country. Trinidad & Tobago has a longstanding relationship with cacao cultivation, particularly fine-flavour cacao, and the material remains closely connected to the islands' agricultural identity.

Cocoa butter is naturally rich in fatty acids, particularly stearic and oleic acids, which give it its characteristic firmness and rich emollient quality.

For the skin, cocoa butter helps soften dry and rough areas, replenish the lipid-rich surface and leave the body feeling supple and deeply conditioned. Its substantial texture also gives Kairi a lasting protective feel that is particularly suited to dry skin.

Within the formula, cocoa butter provides much of the butter's density, richness and slow melt against warm skin.

Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil

Our coconut oil is virgin, unrefined and produced in Trinidad & Tobago from Cocos nucifera.

Coconut has long been woven through Caribbean food, domestic life, hair care and skin care. It is one of the tropical materials most closely associated with everyday life across the region.

For the skin, virgin coconut oil acts as an emollient, helping soften dry skin and replenish its surface with lipids that support a conditioned and supple feel. It also helps improve the feel of dry skin and supports the lipid-rich layer at the surface.

Within Kairi, virgin coconut oil provides a more fluid lipid phase than cocoa butter. It responds readily to body heat, helping the denser fats soften and spread comfortably across larger areas of the body.

Unrefined Moringa Seed Oil

Our moringa seed oil is unrefined and produced in Trinidad & Tobago from the seeds of Moringa oleifera.

Moringa is widely cultivated throughout tropical and subtropical regions and grows readily in Trinidad & Tobago, where it has become part of the contemporary botanical landscape.

The seed oil is naturally rich in oleic acid and valued in cosmetic formulation for its stable, emollient character.

For the skin, moringa seed oil helps soften, condition and improve suppleness, making it particularly useful for areas that feel dry or rough. Its fluid texture allows it to spread easily and contribute richness without relying entirely on heavier solid butters.

Within Kairi, moringa helps loosen the denser structure created by cocoa butter and waxes, improving glide and contributing to the supple feeling left on the skin.

Beeswax

The beeswax used in Kairi is sourced from bees in Trinidad & Tobago.

Beeswax has long been used in balms, salves and body preparations because of the fine protective layer it forms over the surface of the skin.

For the skin, beeswax acts as an emollient and semi-occlusive material. It helps soften the surface while slowing moisture loss, allowing the skin to retain more of the moisture already present within it.

This makes it particularly useful when Kairi is applied after bathing while the skin remains slightly damp.

Within the formula, beeswax also brings the oils and butter together into a cohesive composition and contributes additional structure in a warm tropical climate.

Its sourcing in Trinidad & Tobago gives Kairi another direct relationship to the place where the finished product is made.

Carnauba Wax

Carnauba wax is obtained from the leaves of Copernicia prunifera, a palm native to northeastern Brazil.

It is one of the hardest naturally occurring plant waxes and has a considerably higher melting point than the principal oils and butter used in Kairi.

Its role is deliberately restrained.

On the skin, carnauba contributes to the fine protective film left by the butter and supports its lasting, conditioned feel. Its primary purpose, however, is structural.

Within Kairi, it reinforces the softer botanical fats and helps the butter retain greater integrity in warm conditions.

It is included because the product is formulated for the climate in which it will actually be stored and used.

Cetearyl Alcohol

Cetearyl alcohol is a naturally derived plant fatty alcohol used in cosmetic formulation for both its emollient and structural properties.

Despite its name, it is very different from the volatile alcohols often associated with a drying sensation. It has a wax-like consistency and is commonly used in rich creams, conditioners and body products.

On the skin, cetearyl alcohol contributes softness, slip and emollience, helping Kairi move comfortably across the body while moderating an excessively oily or wax-heavy feel.

Within the formula, it improves cohesion between the oils, butter and waxes and refines the way the product scoops, softens and spreads.

Its inclusion is technical and purposeful.

Made in Studio Nadi Sangama

Kairi is made and whipped by hand in Studio Nadi Sangama, Trinidad & Tobago.

The six ingredients are melted and brought together in small batches, then allowed to cool until the mixture reaches the point where it can be whipped into its final dense texture.

No water is introduced and no synthetic fragrance, emulsifier, preservative, or texturizing additive is used to force the formula into an artificial consistency.

Its texture comes from the materials themselves and the way they are handled.

Unrefined Cocoa Butter, Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil, Unrefined Moringa Seed Oil, Beeswax, Carnauba Wax, Cetearyl Alcohol.

The cocoa butter, coconut oil, moringa seed oil and beeswax are sourced and processed in Trinidad & Tobago.

INCI:

Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Cetearyl Alcohol.

How to Use

Scoop a small amount with clean, dry fingers and allow the butter to soften between the hands before massaging it into the body.

Use on dry skin or after bathing while the skin is still slightly damp.

Kairi is concentrated, so begin with less than you think you need and build from there.

It is particularly suited to areas that benefit from a richer butter, including hands, elbows, knees, legs, and feet.

Care & Climate

Kairi is a natural whipped butter, and temperature will influence its texture.

Warm conditions will soften the butter. Cooler conditions will make it firmer. Because it contains no synthetic stabilizers, shifts in temperature may also gently alter the whipped structure over time.

This is a natural response of cocoa butter, coconut oil, moringa oil, and beeswax rather than a change in the product's quality.

Store closed and away from direct sunlight or excessive heat. Use clean, dry hands or a clean cosmetic spatula and avoid introducing water into the jar.

For external use only. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
